Sports

Sport plays a key part in the day to day life at St. James’. Pupils of all abilities are actively encouraged to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and participate in sports whether it be through the Games and PE lessons or the before and after school sports programme.

Pupils are offered a breadth of sporting clubs which take place after school, every night of the week. Many of which are held are specialist venues or on the school sports field.

Due to the deliberately small size of St. James’, we place a focus on individual and small team sports such as Tennis, Golf, Squash, Athletics, Badminton, Shooting, Table Tennis and Cross Country whilst still competing in Football, Netball, Basketball and Dodgeball.

Competing for St. James’ gives pupils a sense of pride and promotes teamwork and comradery. The Inter-house games and friendly fixtures are organised throughout the school year to give pupils the opportunity to compete against other teams and gain experience and enjoyment from playing their chosen sport.

Pupils who show a talent or passion for a sport have the chance to compete for the local area and nationally through the North East Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and the Independent Schools Association.

Pupils all have two Games lessons per week with specialist teachers. These consist of both team and individual sports and change each half term.
Many of the pupils enjoy representing St. James’ in the numerous fixtures organised locally and nationally.

There are many opportunities for pupils to continue playing sport once the school day has finished in the varied after school clubs. These change each half term but include team sports; netball, football, basketball and smaller team sports such as badminton, table tennis and tennis.
